MALÁ SOPKA DEN
MALÁ SOPKA DEN Malasopkadenedit_zps4mdc8dc5
Where the belief that life can exist is renewed, the Malá Sopka Den serves as the home and whelping area for young pups and the like. Wolves often congregate here, for it is generally considered a place of refuge from the eager jaws of tigers, lynxes, bears, and other predators or nuisances. It is said that the Malá Sopka Den is so peaceful that, if one listens carefully in the absence of other wolves, neither a sound nor cry can be heard. That is, if the weather is holding up!

I ditch the fawn carcass under a tree, then I climb up the tree, settling down in the branches. I peer down from my perch, looking at the carcass down there. I'm. It hungry at all, and I no longer feel the urge to hunt. There's something weird about that valley... I'll make sure to warn the others about it when I tell them about all of the things I have seen so far. I can sense wolves comming, so I know I won't have to wait long. I lick my forepaws, cleaning them of dirt and grit from my journey. I shift, getting comfortable while I wait for the others to arrive. I soon get bored, and raise my head to howl. I let out a long, loud howl, impatient for the others to come.

Post  Kaia Mon Jun 01, 2015 11:54 pm

Kaia was following began to strengthen. She glanced back at the wolves behind her, her eyes flicking to each one, a slight encouraging smile appearing on her face for a moment. "Wherever it is, we are almost there, it seems.." she said clearly. The landscape gradually changed around her, from a rocky and elevated area, to a comparably flat one. The plants stayed similar, though. Kaia was also content due to the nice weather they were having, though the sun was gradually lowering in the sky.

She also noted a lack of scents of other predators. Was this place like a sanctuary? It seemed the wolf known as Lupa had missed a very crucial place indeed. Kaia soon noted something appearing from the masses of foliage.. Her eyes narrowed as she tried to discern what it was. Then, she noticed a small opening in the ground.. Just enough for some mothers and cubs! "It's a den and pack area, this place!" she called out to the other wolves excitedly. Their search had paid off well! Her pace quickened to a brisk gallop as she poked her nose in the den, looking within. The scents within were stale and old, it had been empty for some time. Through the veil of years and time that had passed, Kaia could still smell traces of pups and lives past.. The smells were reassuring. Over all, the place felt very safe.

Kaia breathed out, taking a couple paces away from the den and sitting down. As an adult, she had no intentions of sleeping inside the den. But, it seemed, this would be a good area to come back to, when the wolves weren't traveling, hunting, and such. She glanced back at the den, studying it for a moment, perhaps wondering if one day she would whelp a litter within it's safe walls.. But that seemed a long way off to the young wolf. She also pondered how quickly things had changed for her in this short day, and how she had never felt more satisfied to explore the places she did today. She felt like she had found what she was looking for. Her eyes flicked to Rivet, "Pretty fruitful search, huh? We all did a good job!" She said cheerfully, laying down, intent now to rest for a short while. She still yearned to look around more, but was also thinking of nesting here for the night, as she was quite tired.

Post  Rivet Tue Jun 02, 2015 2:43 am

While sporting an overly satisfied grin on his own face, Rivet strolled along behind Kaia’s gray figure. This grin of his did not appear due to the fact that the words the others had heeded were partially his own, but instead it came from simply knowing that progress had now officially been made. As he continued along, his steps even, he occasionally tossed an overly ecstatic filled glance between those that trailed along behind him back to where Kaia’s frame advanced in front of him. This was exactly the type of image he saw when he contemplated what exactly the term ‘pack’ truly meant in this sort of instance.

"Let's hope we find a system that works"

As the thought was vocally expressed, Rivet couldn’t help but silently agreeing. It was going to be fun working with them all in the future, but before that could truly happen they needed to continue on the path they were on now. It wasn’t going to be as simple as simply showing up and pronouncing yourself as the leader and expecting everyone to follow you because of your previous experience. They were all experiencing this new world for the first time, so that meant they would all need to discover what new protocols were needed and just how these protocols should be established so the pack became an efficient unit. This, however, was going to have to be a hurdle they all leaped over some other time. Now was the time to direct his focus on finding a permanent quarter for their general safety and housing purposes. If they planned on going above and beyond the expectations the aged one had for them-one day, they would need a safe haven that would allow them to simply unwind and partially escape from the realities that lurked about the remainder of the land.

“Wherever it is, we are almost there, it seems. It's a den and pack area, this place"

At the sound of excitement and the gradual change of scenery, Rivet’s pace slightly quickened as he continued to pursue Kaia. He was eager to fully take in the sight for himself. While his yellow eyes scanned the vicinity carefully, he allowed his nose to take in any scent the refuge offered. It was both aesthetically pleasing and safe-this was definitely a lucky discovery. “I would say this was a convenient find, but honestly the ancient one probably intended for us to discover this specific spot from the start.” Rivet expressed the thought that came to mind, as he continued to move about the area. It seemed capable enough for a stronghold and already provided them with room to grow. “I’d like to ensure the area is entirely secure before we settle down permanently, but I think this could totally work. What do you three think?” He asked, as he brought his head inward toward his shoulder so he could get a better look at the others. The decision to remain here should be unanimous, so if even one of them expressed a concern for the area-it would need to be rectified. Kaia’s previous demonstration of excitement, made it seem like she shared the same overall thoughts that he had also conjured up in regards to this find.

"Pretty fruitful search, huh? We all did a good job!"

“I know we all basically just met, but I honestly think that is why this discovery feels so good! With a bit more work, we’ll totally be able to show them striped things that they can’t just do whatever it is they want.” His words were filled with a sense of playful exhilaration, but lined behind each word was a hint of sincerity. This adventure was starting off to be a good one-a trying one mind you, but still a good one. In the comforts of his own thoughts, he hoped that the future would be filled with even more adventures like todays. “Night will be upon us soon, so do we desire to simply remain here for the time being and plan for tomorrow? We might be animals of the night, but I’d wager none of us know this land as well as those tigers probably do. I don’t know if they prefer the night over the heat of the day or not, but I don’t think it wise to take chances-at least not on this particular night.” Rivet offered his words up for everyone to consider if their ears desired to take them in. While he waited for a response, the brown wolf eased himself into a sitting position. As the wind shuffled his fur about in random directions, a slightly familiar scent filled his nose. It was not a scent he had known for long, but it was that smell of one of the wolves in the gathering from earlier-whether it was the authoritarian or the one that disappeared on her own he could not be certain.

I scent two wolves from before, I'll need to ask them their names. I wonder if they've been exploring the territory at all, and if so, what they have found. I'll tell them what I have found, and warn them. I leap out of my tree, only making a slight thump. I proceed to rip off a chunk of flesh from my fawn carcass, and quietly walk over to the others. I lay down in the tall grass, in an area where they won't see me now, but they'll see me in sunlight. I gnaw on my chunk of flesh, and when I'm done, I rest, patiently waiting.

Pavor was ecstatic. She could definitely work with these four wolves, as they all seemed to have their heads straight.  She smiled around at everyone. Maybe she would open up to them.

"Let's hope we find a system that works"

Pavor silently nodded her head in agreement with Loup, who was slightly behind her. She turned and caught her grin, and she returned it excitement flashing in her features. Grinning slightly at the others, she poked her nose in some bushes as they passed.

“Wherever it is, we are almost there, it seems. It's a den and pack area, this place"

She could practically feel the excitement building as she entered the clearing behind the others, She poked her nose in some surrounding bushes and everything else. She laughed slightly from being in a pack once more, or maybe just to have company of others.

“I would say this was a convenient find, but honestly the ancient one probably intended for us to discover this specific spot from the start. I’d like to ensure the area is entirely secure before we settle down permanently, but I think this could totally work. What do you three think?”

Pavor turned her head in his direction and thought slowly about it. "Yes. I think we at least need to secure the area first. . . Properly." She added the last word remembering the bossy female from the first clearing. she smirked slightly and continues poking her nose around.

"Pretty fruitful search, huh? We all did a good job!"

“I know we all basically just met, but I honestly think that is why this discovery feels so good! With a bit more work, we’ll totally be able to show them striped things that they can’t just do whatever it is they want. 'well these two certainly seem to know what they're doing. Wouldn't mind listening to them.' she thought as they were discussing what to do next. "You're right, Rivet." She paused, was that the name they used for him? "I say we mark around here for the time being, and have a night watch for extra precautions, but just for tonight maybe, because if i smelled wolves after they have been gone for a while, i would be curious and want to find out, wouldn't you?" She suggested as she had stopped poking her nose in places for a while. she tilted her head in thought as she spoke. it sounded like a good idea. "We could take it in turns, that way everyone gets at least some rest." She added. She looked at the others, curious of their opinion. This felt right to her, she could definitely work with these four. Her nose caught another scent. Was it the bossy female? She tuned her head in that direction. Maybe it was the one who went off on her own. She shrugged her shoulders and turned back to face the other four.

I stand and shake out my pelt. It appears that some of them have caught my scent, may as well come out. I slink out of the grass, hearing some of their conversation.

"I know we all basically just met, but I honestly think that is why this discovery feels so good! "You're right, Rivet." "Hey!" I bark, "Remember me? Well, I could help with the night watch, if you'd let me." I pause, "What are your names? I'd like to know who I'm talking to."

AUGUSTINE
▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

“Night will be upon us soon, so do we desire to simply remain here for the time being and plan for tomorrow? We might be animals of the night, but I’d wager none of us know this land as well as those tigers probably do. I don’t know if they prefer the night over the heat of the day or not, but I don’t think it wise to take chances-at least not on this particular night.”

Augustine listened quietly as the others spoke, and he found himself agreeing. They needed to come up with a watch to keep the predators the Ancient had warned them about, because he was not keen on being killed so soon after he was promised a permanent place to stay. His head canted to the side as he considered volunteering himself up for the duty, it would definitely earn him respect if he offered to put himself between them and tigers, but on the other hand he wanted to know what they were talking about, and as stated before, he was not keen on dying.

After a moment, he sighed to himself, stood up and stretched out before stilling again. "I'll watch the clearing when night falls," he promised, and followed Pavor's example, rubbing his neck against trees and lifting his leg to scent bushes. Perhaps the stronger the scent of wolf there was, the less likely the chance of tigers became. Augustine flopped down in the tall grass, gnawing on a few stems, his eyes never leaving the group.

"Hey! Remember me? Well, I could help with the night watch, if you'd let me.What are your names? I'd like to know who I'm talking to."

She was definitely odd, that one. Climbing trees - seriously, who did that? - and whatnot, Augustine wasn't sure he could trust her to back him in a brush with an opponent, she seemed flighty. After all, she had left the clearing by herself with strict instructions not to, and wandered who knows where. While he wasn't too happy about it, he wasn't going to object to her joining him to watch. "Augustine," he grunted instead.

“I would say this was a convenient find, but honestly the ancient one probably intended for us to discover this specific spot from the start. I’d like to ensure the area is entirely secure before we settle down permanently, but I think this could totally work. What do you three think?”

"Hmm, yea, she probably did.. And we probably should secure the area a bit more." Kaia replied with a light sigh, heaving herself back into a sitting position. Sleep seemed tantalizing at this point, but there was more work to be done before they could rest. She felt slightly less tired after a few moments, though, as the evening began to give her a second burst of energy. Wolves were, indeed, nocturnal, but it didn't change the fact that this female was rather tired.

“I know we all basically just met, but I honestly think that is why this discovery feels so good! With a bit more work, we’ll totally be able to show them striped things that they can’t just do whatever it is they want. Night will be upon us soon, so do we desire to simply remain here for the time being and plan for tomorrow? I don’t know if they prefer the night over the heat of the day or not, but I don’t think it wise to take chances-at least not on this particular night.”

"These tigers sound feline, so knowing how well those guys see at night, I'd wager they are nocturnal like us. Considering this place is unfamiliar our best bet is probably to mark our boundaries and hang out here for the night, where the numbers and the scents of us are helping to keep us safe. I did notice that of all the areas here, this place has very little traces of fellow predators." Kaia replied to Rivet, in whole agreement with him. She then came to a full stand, trotting off as others did to mark the area around them. She did so within the den area, and also went off slightly further, rubbing trees, kicking dirt, among other things to help make their presence here known. This place is ours. her scent markings seemed to say, stay away or suffer the consequences of your intrusion.

"I say we mark around here for the time being, and have a night watch for extra precautions, but just for tonight maybe, because if i smelled wolves after they have been gone for a while, i would be curious and want to find out, wouldn't you? We could take it in turns, that way everyone gets at least some rest."

"A night watch sounds very smart." She replied encouragingly to the female as she came trotting back to the group. "I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but I've been running since the morning, so it would be really great if someone else took first watch. I can do any time afterwards, though." She noted, punctuating these words with a genuine yawn.

"Hey! Remember me? Well, I could help with the night watch, if you'd let me. What are your names? I'd like to know who I'm talking to."

"Wonderful!" Kaia replied to her, "Any help is definitely needed and appreciated, if we're going to make this work. So, thank you. I am Kaia." She smiled, it was a little less enthusiastic this time around, and her eyes looked slightly droopier than they had a short time earlier, as fatigue and the desire for sleep grew stronger.

"I'll watch the clearing when night falls. Augustine."

"Awesome, thank you." She replied to the male, even if he was more directly speaking to the other female whom had asked for their names. Kaia felt at the time that forging some bonds with these wolves, and making sure their efforts were wholly appreciated, was a very important measure to take. If they were going to become a pack, wolves would need to know their contributions were being appreciated. Kaia also couldn't help but yawn again. She strode towards Rivet, deciding already that she would sit next to him for the time being. Of all the wolves, she felt she had gotten to know him the most. "I'm thinking we head back up to where we met that elderly female tomorrow, or whenever we get a good sleep, to explore that area some more. It's near enough to here that it won't be too far of a venture.. What do you think?" She asked, tilting her head curiously as she awaited a response.

"Augustine." He grunted at me, then another female spoke,
"Wonderful! "Any help is definitely needed and appreciated, if we're going to make this work. So, thank you. I am Kaia."

Well, Kaia is definitely more friendly than Augustine. I trot off back toward the tree I was in before, and grab the fawn carcass I killed earlier. I drag it back over toward the others, leaving it a few tail-lengths away.

"I killed this fawn, so if your hungry you can eat some, I don't really care." I bark, then pause before continuing, "My name is Ember, by the way."

I walk over just in time to hear Kaia ask the other male, "I'm thinking we head back up to where we met that elderly female tomorrow, or whenever we get a good sleep, to explore that area some more. It's near enough to here that it won't be too far of a venture.. What do you think?"

Well, I could tell them about my adventure yesterday. i trot over to Kaia and the other male, then say, "There is a forest out there that a tiger has claimed as his own. I would''t recommend going into it, but if you have to pass by it, you should be fine. The river, it's pretty dangerous, but the hunting there is good. Near the river, there is a beautiful waterfall, and even though there isn't any prey, there isn't any predators. I would go there again, even if it is only for the view."I hesitate a moment, but I continue, I started it, so I may as well go on with it. "Also, there is a valley. The hunting there is fantastic. Yet, if you stay there to long, something makes you want to hunt, again and again and again." I hope they don't think I'm crazy about that last part. If I was someone else, I wouldn't believe it.

"Also, there is a valley. The hunting there is fantastic. Yet, if you stay there to long, something makes you want to hunt, again and again and again."The wolf called Ember said. Loup–who had been standing at the very mouth of the den as though she had pups to protect–now stepped forward and turned her steady golden eyes on the other female. The thought of such a place both thrilled and chilled her. Loup understood that desire to kill, and sometimes felt it, though it came from the much more mundane source of her own anger. If there was a place that drew out such feelings in light-hearted beings like Ember, Loup and the others had better beware. But if there was good hunting... were they to starve? Or move from this safe place to some distant, dreary hunting ground? The brown she wolf felt new energy creep into her body. She understood how to manage such hate and bloodthirstiness in herself; she'd practiced it since puphood amid the torment of her packmates. Maybe now that pain, and the ability that stemmed from it, could help her deal with this strange place and bring back food for the others safely. That in turn might gain her the acceptance Loup so craved.
All this passed through her mind in the time it took for a bird to sing its good-night call. Turning away, Loup added her scent marks to those already laid. Feeling a bit more at ease with herself she returned the mouth of the den and circled three times, neatly settling down.
"Wake me up when you get tired and I'll take second watch. In the morning–" her self-control broke and she yawned "–we should try to assemble an idea of nearby safe zones and the quickest way between them. Once we have places to run to we can worry about putting the tigers in their place." Loup lay her head in her paws drowsily. She had never been one for late nights.

MALÁ SOPKA DEN Empty post 1

Post  Chance Wed Jun 03, 2015 2:02 am

Insects wailing, undergrowth rusting, stomach growling- stomach growling? A muffled growl, it was a change from his earlier stomach cries. It was as if his stomach was accepting that he was going to go another night without food. Chance couldn't help but pin his ears back at the sound of his own stomach, not only was it a huge distraction, but Chance was beginning to feel sorry for his stomach as if it were a creature who lived inside of him. As silly as bonding with your own stomach sounds, it was a nice thought to have. The lanky brute had been alone for quite some time now, and Chance hadn't exactly wanted to disperse from his previous pack, but the choice wasn't really his to make. 'It was his time', they said, he 'needed to make something of himself.' "Well I think that is a load of dung." He muttered to himself, only then to realize that his voice had spooked a hare that was far into pursuit of getting away as fast as possible. His brow wrinkled furiously, and he pulled back his lips into a sort of frown. I guess I'll just complain in my head from now on...

The insects only grew louder as night fell, and Chance prayed for the stars to fall from the sky and plug his ears. He had trekked further than he had ever ventured before, and the brute was beginning to lose hope. His paw pads ached, his muscles fought each other for the last drops of hydration he had left. Frankly Chance didn't know why he kept moving, perhaps it was the feeling that good things do come to those who wait. And as if by some miracle or odd coincidence, the most beautiful yet terrifying scent hit his nose - wolf. Chance's cool blue eyes shot open wider, suddenly every hair on his body tingled with excitement and adrenaline. Not only did Chance scent wolf, he caught the scent of several of them. Without thinking or even really much of anything, Chance quickened his mopey walk in the direction of the scents.

Whatever you do, don't look intimidating! Don't look scary. Don't look mean. You need this Chance. The self-pep talk ran over and over in his mind as his eyes wildly scanned the entrance of what appeared to be a den. It was large, and guarded. What would they think of him? A strange, male wolf, alone and desperate. It wouldn't be a surprise if you could catch the adrenaline sparking like a flame in his eyes. What do I even say? Is there a proper way to approach a new pack? Is there a ritual? Of course it had to be night time. Do I say greetings or just hello? "Stop panicking." He whispered, closing his dull blue orbs for a moment to inhale. "Here it goes."

With a few steps, Chance emerged from the security of the shadows. He was in full sight of anyone paying attention, and his heart was beating faster than it had ever beaten before. Tail lowered as low as possible, the brute opened his maw: "I'm no threat, is there someone I can talk to about perhaps joining?"

"I'm no threat, is there someone I can talk to about perhaps joining?"I snap my head toward the voice, my eyes glittering in the moonlight. This stranger looks terrified of asking if he may join us, and he said he was no threat, so I doubt he would be a problem. The more wolves we have in our group makes us stronger, we can defend ourselves better. Additionally, it isn't safe to be out alone at night. It isn't that safe to be alone in the daylight, I remind myself. May as well let him join us.

What is your name, stranger? I bark quietly, "And I say you can join us, the more wolves we have, the better. I hesitate before giving the brute my name, but I do, anyway. "My name is Ember, by the way." I may be quite compared to some of my packmates, but I talk a lot more that when I first joined this pack.

I trot off, then grab the fawn carcass in my jaw, and drag it over to the brute. "Here. Eat some if your hungry." I mutter, then resume my post. I sit down, starting off into the forest, watching. I keep one ear angled in the direction of the newcomer,  but for the most part I observe the forest, listening for anything that could be a threat. Watching for any sign of movement.

At the sound of the stranger's introduction, Loup opened her eyes just a little. She was a light–abet frequent–sleeper and the constant rustling and muttering of this new wolf had alerted her to his presence some time ago. The fact that he had caught Ember off guard bothered Loup immensely. Did she really trust these wolves if they couldn't hear a blundering canine on an otherwise silent night? Beside, they had been awake and she had not. If Kaia was right and tigers were feline, they would be a lot quieter then a wolf. Deciding she was safer watching out for herself, Loup stood and walked to where Ember and the new wolf were talking. In spite of herself, she gave the other female a withering glare. Then she sized up the new-comer.
"I have no problem with you being here," except you'll probably turn out to be another helpless pup that needs protecting she thought "But neither I nor Ember have any sort of leadership here. It is not our place to accept you. That's for other wolves, or maybe the whole group together, to decide. We are not a real pack that can take care of you, anyway." Then, softening a little under his frightened, hungry gaze, she added "Go eat, or they'll have nothing but a skeleton to accept in the morning."

Post  Ember Wed Jun 03, 2015 10:43 am

I make a low, grumbling noise, not quite a growl, but not friendly, either. I slink off, I would prefer to only have the company of my own mind then these wolves. I decide to climb a tree and watch, as no other wolf appears to like climbing them. I leap into the lowest branches, then jump from branch to branch, finally arriving at the highest ones. They may be weak, but they can support my weight. Also, from my perch I can see the whole surrounding forest, so any movement nearby I would be able to spot. I raise my head toward the moon, resisting the urge to howl.

No tigers would come here, anyway. But I have to be obedient, or else they will hate me. No one likes you anyway, whats the point? I shake out my head, trying to get rid of the nagging voice in my mind. I scent the air, nothing but forest scent surrounds me. well, forest scent and wolf scent. I look down at my sleeping packmates, wondering how they sleep. I only sleep during the day, and only for a hour, at the most. Yet I never feel tired. I always had to be prepared at night, as tigers would come out and hunt near where I lived as a pup. I slept in trees, as tigers have major difficulty climbing them. Tree climbing comes as easily as hunting does for me, unlike the others, apparently.

AUGUSTINE
▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

From Augustine's spot in the grass, his ears pivoted in each direction, keeping a careful ear out for anyone approaching, be it a newcomer or tigers, he didn't want to be caught off guard. His teeth worked the tough straws absently, and rose to his paws when he heart a deep rumbling sound somewhere not too far off. With his ears forward, trying his best to place the noise, he eventually picked out paws to go with it, and stalked towards the source of the noise, taking care to avoid anything that would make too much noise under his paws. The scent of wolf hit his nose, but it wasn't one he recognized, so he doubted it was anyone from earlier who had yet to join them.

Then a slim figure broke out from the underbrush, and it was immediately clear that the newcomer was not a threat. That having been determined, he dropped his aggressive stance and watched curiously as he approached, not seeing fit to wake any one. How they slept at night, he hadn't the slightest. Augustine was always active at night, his thoughts and movements becoming sluggish at day as he grew tired. He eyed the other male skeptically, and pretended not to be relieved when Loup joined them.

"I'm no threat, is there someone I can talk to about perhaps joining?"

At that, his ears twitched. Maybe all newcomers should be accepted by the older female he had yet to learn the name of, or perhaps they were more of a democracy. For now, he decided that getting the majority's rule stepped on less tales. How did he voice that they didn't have any proper leadership to an outsider? Someone who could potentially bring them harm. While the newcomer certainly wouldn't be able to harm all of them, perhaps he knew others. Augustine chided himself for being so paranoid, and blamed it on his sensory overload from speaking more in the past day than in his entire life, and the shock of having such a large pack when just a week ago he was on his own.

"I have no problem with you being here. But neither I nor Ember have any sort of leadership here. It is not our place to accept you. That's for other wolves, or maybe the whole group together, to decide. We are not a real pack that can take care of you, anyway."

Augustine was infinitely grateful that he wasn't the one that had to say it, and silently thanked Loup for her words. He huffed to voice his relief, and approached the other male, burying his nose in his shoulder to get a good idea of what he smelled like so he could recognize him in the future. Out of the corner of his eye he caught movement, and looked over just in time to see Ember climbing a tree. His stomach twisted and he was certain he made a face, but whether it was horror or blatant shock he wasn't sure of. There was no way a wolf would be able to climb such a tree, or any tree at all. He shot an uneasy glance at Loup, then back to the male he still had his nose buried in.

When he remembered himself, he pulled his nose out of his shoulder, and edged around the clearing, putting as much distance between himself and Ember.

I look down from my perch, toward to others. Augustine appears to be both horrified and shocked about the fact that I climb trees, but I am unaffected by his opinion. I don't care about other's opinions about me, and I doubt I ever will, I think to myself. If I was a different wolf, I would agree that climbing trees was unnatural, but being who I am, I do it. I survey the area, observing my packmates, and always keeping an eyes on the surrounding forest. I begin to wonder if the other wolves trust me, as I differ greatly from them. I raise my head up, the moonlight shinning on my pelt, thinking to myself. On these nights, the ones where I feel all alone in the world, are the nights where I greatly miss my family. Most of all, I miss my brother. He was always carefree and would do everything with me. He even learned how to climb trees just to be with me. I sigh, I'll never find someone just as caring as my brother, and I don't really want to.

Returning to the tree subject, I wonder if they knew why I climbed trees if they would like me better. When I was younger, barely more than a pup, I practically lived in trees. Trees are safe, as tigers have great difficulty climbing them. Even if they tried, I could easily push them off, or the branch would snap under their weight. Those where my best days, I think fondly. I was safe, and only had to care for myself. But, although I hate to admit it to myself, I enjoy being around other wolves, even if they don't care for me all that much. i would fight to the death for them, although I doubt a situation like that would arise. I shake my head, time to focus. I allow my body to relax, and but on a case void of emotion. I stare into the depths of the forest as the moon slowly drifted across the night sky.

Post  Rivet Wed Jun 03, 2015 8:15 pm

With decisions being made left and right, Rivet found his body and mind ease up. Today had been a tough one, but the events had certainly kept him entertained. Quietly he watched a few of the others go and scent the surrounding area, as they reclaimed a portion of the terrain those in the past had lost. At the sound of a voice, the smaller framed male rotated about to receive each word. It seemed to belong to the female that had previously disappeared on her own earlier. His yellow eyes sat glued onto her figure as he riddled his own thoughts looking for her name. He was sure he had heard it at least once before, but regardless of his attempts-he came up empty. Names, however, weren’t nearly as important thought to Rivet as actions were and so far this female seemed decent enough. Her opinion on the tigers were that they, too, were creatures that preferred the darkness of the night over the heat of the day. It seemed practical enough, and reaffirmed his thoughts on how under no circumstances should one be out traveling in the dark by themselves.

"I'm thinking we head back up to where we met that elderly female tomorrow, or whenever we get a good sleep, to explore that area some more. It's near enough to here that it won't be too far of a venture.. What do you think?"

“It would be worth the trip, I think. It was obvious the terrain up there offered us an advantage when it came to height and, so it seems ideal for a scouting point.” Rivet spoke in response to Kaia’s words, while he watched her plop herself down beside him. He knew next to nothing about this gray female, but yet her company was still a welcomed sight. As he finished his own words, the reddish female from before talked of her solo explorations. The very thought of her exploring on her own seemed ridiculous and regardless of the amount of intel she brought back it would not excuse her actions, but this was not something Rivet could vocalize-for it was not his place. The male had no room to speak when it came to partaking in reckless adventures, but at the very least he knew where his priorities lied-even if they were newly established priorities.

"Wake me up when you get tired and I'll take second watch. In the morning we should try to assemble an idea of nearby safe zones and the quickest way between them. Once we have places to run to we can worry about putting the tigers in their place."

Loup, he believed was this particular being's name, had like Kaia formed a good plan. While he did not voice his agreement, Rivet did acknowledge the fact that she seemed to carry a good level head on her shoulders. Wolves like Loup and Kaia would be essential components this pack needed if they wanted, desired to succeed in their task. Of course, all sorts of personalities and strengths would be needed in the end. Seeing what everyone contributed to the pack seemed amusing-if he were honest.

“I'm no threat, is there someone I can talk to about perhaps joining?"

These words drew Rivet in at a moments notice. They did not belong to one of the wolves he already familiarized himself with in the vicinity, which meant this wolf was a new member candidate. His words were normal for any wolf seeking membership in a pack, but when the only real leader the pack had claimed she would be nothing more than a guide stuck to the shadows-how were they supposed to handle such a situation. The reddish female, whose name was apparently Ember, seemed to speak up her general approval of letting him join in on all the pack fun. It was a hasty acceptance, which was something Loup seemed to take notice of as well.

"I have no problem with you being here, but neither I nor Ember have any sort of leadership here. It is not our place to accept you. That's for other wolves, or maybe the whole group together, to decide. We are not a real pack that can take care of you, anyway."

Her words reverberated his very thoughts on the matter from earlier, as the matter once again began to churn through his head. If they had no designated leader, how were they going to deal with situations like this one in the future? If no one wolf could accept them, it would simply have to be a group effort. “If you join, do you plan on giving us your absolute all?” Rivet probed, his body still in the same exact sitting position he took after briefly surveying the new location. The question was not something he posed out of malice, nor did it possess any hidden ulterior motives. It seemed like the type of question one should ask during this type of situation. This makeshift pack already had its problems, so the addition of deadweights would be of no help.

Post  Loup Wed Jun 03, 2015 9:03 pm

The sense of approval from the two males pleased Loup so much she wanted to wriggle and whine like a young pup. As it was, she uttered a soft whimper of delight. The muscles in her tail hurt from restraining a joyous wag and Loup was finding it hard to stand still. Her lips were drawn back in a subtle but very happy pant. At last she had offered something of value to her pack. True, she had not wanted to rebuke Ember, but Loup's priorities lay in pleasing those she respected before humoring those she did not. Rivet and Augustine both had the makings of wolves to whom she could willingly offer service, as did Kaia, but Ember was a wild card. Sometimes clever and good, other times wandering off alone or climbing trees. Loup didn't enjoy being around anything she didn't understand, and Ember was still a mystery. Yet here lay a conundrum: she was beginning to like these other wolves, but how could she stay with them permanently if her only knowledge of them was based on brief encounters? Glances–such as the mutually horrified one she'd exchanged with Augustine at the tree climbing–were not adequate judges of a wolf's character. How could they have a pack if the word "pack" had not been exercised in the minds of these loners for months, even years?

Loup briefly returned to the newcomer, bobbing her muzzle as she sniffed him from a safe distance. Her mind was still turning. He seemed no better and no worse than the others.

“If you join, do you plan on giving us your absolute all?”Rivet's voice distracted her. Loup swiveled her ears and eyes in his direction, spared a quick glance to the other wolves, then looked back at Rivet. She lowered her ears in appreciation of his question; an especially valid one in this situation. Loup had not yet made the permanent decision to stay, but if she did there would be no second guessing or slacking off. Already she had pushed herself hard just to get this far. She and her group should expect nothing less from each other. Perhaps that was the key to being "pack".

Once Pavor was satisfied with her surroundings, she laid down somewhat near the den and let herself smile inwardly smile at the company she had in that small clearing. Her head lifted as the other female, was her name Kaia? started to speak.

"I'm thinking we head back up to where we met that elderly female tomorrow, or whenever we get a good sleep, to explore that area some more. It's near enough to here that it won't be too far of a venture.. What do you think?"

She nodded her agreement. She had closed her eyes, she would take the night watch if she woke up in the middle of the night. She turned her head to the she reddish female and listened. So she was the one that went off on her own. . . Not very smart, but at least she is still here. she thought as she explained her adventures. She let her eyes flick to each wolf that took up to speaking. She turned her head in the direction of a new scent and voice.

“I'm no threat, is there someone I can talk to about perhaps joining?"

She lifted her her head up completely this time her amber eyes analyzing the stranger before her. He didn't seem to be a threat, but one could never know. . . But Ember, as she called herself, seemed to think he was no absolute threat and welcoming him right on in, however,  she had her doubts. Pavor made to stand and check him out but Loup had said something that made her smile and remain on the sandy floor.

"I have no problem with you being here, but neither I nor Ember have any sort of leadership here. It is not our place to accept you. That's for other wolves, or maybe the whole group together, to decide. We are not a real pack that can take care of you, anyway."

“If you join, do you plan on giving us your absolute all?”

She thought about his words. What if she didn't give it her absolute all? Would they let her stay? To be quite honest fighting wasn't her skill and hunting had seen better days, but she wasn't completely dependent. She had made it this far for Two whole years, she could at least try her best at contributing to this "pack" to the best of her abilities. Se continued to watch as Augustine checked him out or whatever one would call it. She felt her head grow heavy and she let it rest on her paws, her mind racing with thoughts of pointless, "what if's".

"I killed this fawn, so if your hungry you can eat some, I don't really care. My name is Ember, by the way."

"I'll have some later," Kaia replied smoothly, opening her maw for yet another yawn. Her eyelids seemed to droop more with every moment.. "Thank you though, Ember, and it's nice to meet you. Sorry for my less-than-alertness, I've been traveling non stop since before daybreak." She noted, trying to at least explain herself so further newcomers didn't get the impression that Kaia was a lazy wolf. She was far from it. She was, also, all for first impressions.

"There is a forest out there that a tiger has claimed as his own. I would''t recommend going into it, but if you have to pass by it, you should be fine. The river, it's pretty dangerous, but the hunting there is good. Near the river, there is a beautiful waterfall, and even though there isn't any prey, there isn't any predators. I would go there again, even if it is only for the view. Also, there is a valley. The hunting there is fantastic. Yet, if you stay there to long, something makes you want to hunt, again and again and again."

Kaia nodded in acknowledgement, and it wasn't long before a new stranger appeared and asked about joining. It was then that this new wolf, Ember, sauntered off, and Kaia rested her head on her paws. There wasn't much to hinder her from drifting off to sleep now. She closed her eyes, still listening to the others speak for the time being. Reminiscing about her birth pack, her siblings, parents, and upbringing, she shivered with nostalgia. The sounds once more of pack members filled the air, and Kaia absolutely loved it. It was then that Kaia heard a funny scratching noise. Immediately thinking bear or tiger climbing up a tree, her eyes burst open.. Only to find.. Ember? A wolf. Climbing a tree. Kaia snorted with amusement before closing her eyes once more.

“It would be worth the trip, I think. It was obvious the terrain up there offered us an advantage when it came to height and, so it seems ideal for a scouting point.”

"Glad you agree. It does give us a nice vantage point to work off of. We can slowly branch outward until we have a good idea of the whole territory, too." She closed with that, allowing Rivet to then walk away to address the new stranger inquiring about joining. They weren't a pack yet, but it was nice to see several wolves taking the lead to decide if they would accept this newcomer. Of course they would. But joining together to decide among themselves was definitely already helping to build this pack up into a group.

Kaia also began to wonder about the elderly female she had met before.. Where was she now? How did she survive on her own, when she was so old? How did an old female like her not get eaten by these mysterious tigers? Questions such as these swirled around her head, and it suddenly became much harder for her to sleep. She hoped the tigers were small, but with her luck, they'd be the biggest cats of them all.. And Kaia had no idea how awfully right she was. So, she laid there still, musing about questions and looking to be sleeping when she was truly frustratingly awake.

Post  Chance Thu Jun 04, 2015 3:39 am

{ doing my best at 1 am x_x }

Immediately, as to be expected, Chance was noticed and confronted. However he did not expect the kindness, well at least that's what he assumed it to be, from the first wolf who spoke to him. Ember she called herself, and his whole being felt uplifted as she accepted him. You can eat if you're hungry. Was it that noticeable? Did the months of being alone reflect back at the now gathering wolves like an image in a lake on a sunny day? He tried to maintain his composure, brushing off the growing insecurities. If his claim to be no threat matched his stature, it would only work in his favor.

Before he could give his reply to the one called Ember, another voice spoke up from the being of a much firmer appearing female. "I have no problem with you being here. But neither I nor Ember have any sort of leadership here. It is not our place to accept you. That's for other wolves, or maybe the whole group together, to decide. We are not a real pack that can take care of you, anyway." Not a real pack? Chance was taken by surprise at the female's statement of them not having leadership. What concerned him most was whether or not they'd accept him, but by the looks of it, it didn't really matter nonetheless.

"Go eat, or they'll have nothing but a skeleton to accept in the morning." The brute could not help but chuckle. No need in getting offended, he had to admit it was true, Chance had spent many weeks alone and it isn't that easy to find prey when you are always moving. But this female's blatant statement from an obvious observation had risen a chuckle from Chance's chest. He dipped his head in thanks, and a small smile tugged the corners of his maw.

Chance hadn't noticed Ember disappeared while he was listening to the second wolf to greet him, but as a few others surrounded him, he couldn't help but notice the looks the wolves cast around at each other, and the expressions they all shared. Looking past the wolves in front of him, he understood the silent judgement. Ember had managed to climb a tree, and it took every ounce of Chance's willpower to retain his collected expression. It was not his place to question the wolf who had been kind before, and not his place to make any sort of notion that he might be snarky or malicious. However the wolves who stood before him now, whether they remained quiet or spoke something of a similar nature to the words the second wolf had stated, brought on a strange calming sensation. Apparently the rag-tag band of wolves weren't much of anything yet, but he could sense that being included in whatever they were to become would bring nothing but good to him.

Chance was ever grateful none had questioned him, he inquired that many were once travelers just like him- and obviously none of them enjoyed doing so alone. A new feeling, something physical, was what greeted him next. A nose, smooth and cold, found itself in his shoulder. It had been some time since Chance was last greeted this way- well it wasn't exactly a greeting, more or less a way of identifying. He followed the nose up to the frame of the wolf, finding large shoulders and a muscled physique. This was a wolf Chance wanted to be on the good side of, perhaps maybe once he got his health back, this wolf could help rebuild Chance's muscle and strength. Who knew how long it would take for the two to ever become comfortable with good old fashioned sparring, but it was a nice thought towards the future.

Ears flicking, the brute caught a question directed at him that he didn't think would be coming so soon. “If you join, do you plan on giving us your absolute all?” Chance couldn't help but grin. "I've been offered food by two of you already, this is something I have not experienced for some time now. Of course I would, don't let my current stature fool you, I would love to show you all I'd make a great asset." He answered. "I'm Chance, by the way." Take a chance on Chance. He thought to himself, and then quickly internally scolded himself for making light of a very serious situation.

"I've been offered food by two of you already, this is something I have not experienced for some time now. Of course I would, don't let my current stature fool you, I would love to show you all I'd make a great asset. I'm Chance, by the way."

Loup greeted the male with a thump of her tail. She liked this wolf's–Chance's–spirit. Even when hungry and tired, he still had ambition.

"My name is Loup. Nice to meet you." She paused, then allowed herself a wry grin."And don't worry, tomorrow you'll have plenty of opportunities to prove yourself."

She glanced over at the others. Some were relaxed and drifting back into sleep, others still tense and watchful. A strange sense of affection posed Loup, but she mentally knocked it away. Now was not the time to care about them. Tomorrow they might all split up and leave her to fend for herself once again. She daren't trust them. They had no reason to keep her. She may have given her all, but that didn't mean the others had noticed. At that thought, a wave of exhaustion seemed to swallow her. Frustration snarled in her heart. Would she ever feel secure? Ever earn her place? To prove herself she would have to do something incredible, but that was a feat she was not strong enough to accomplish by herself. No, Loup thought sharply That's not true. You could do something great by yourself. You have done great things by yourself. You're just tired of doing them. You want to share the experience with someone else. But there was no one to share it with. She had no allies. She was surrounded by wolves and yet she was no less alone than she'd been as a dispersal.

Loup looked at the fawn carcass. Under the hunger of Ember and Chance, it was rapidly disappearing. Around it lay miles upon miles of dangerous territory. Valleys and ridges filled with prey, tigers and bears. She gritted her teeth. She hated not knowing her place! By tomorrow night we'll have a plan, she vowed. Loup lay down by the den again, confronted by its faded scents of family.

I've been following her scent for days now. I was shocked when I first scented her, and that was off of this pack's territory-or, possibly, her territory. If she is in a pack, I must join it. To prove myself, I have caught a young buck deer. It took me awhile, but I was able to corner it against a large tree, and kill it. I have been carrying it for awhile now, but I am so close... If it wasn't for my sense of smell, I would never have been able to scent her that one day. And then, I see her silhouette perched in a tree. My tail starts wagging, the golden tip flashes back and forth. I pick up my pace, excited to talk to my sister for the first time in years. I break into the clearing, drop my carcass, then turn back to my sister in her tree. My sister! Oh, how I have missed my sister! I stand up on my hind legs, placing my forepaws on the trunk, not quite wanting to climb up it. My tail is wagging crazily now.

"Ember! Ember, its me, Smoke! I have found you at last!" I bark out happily. I turn to the others, still talking to Ember, "Who are your friends? If your a pack can I join? I brought a buck to offer to them." I sit down, my tail jumping against the ground while panting, I just can't contain my excitement. I look around, noticing how the other wolves seem to sit away from the tree Ember sits on. My tail slows down a bit, but it is not enough to completely ruin my reunion. I turn to Ember, my long lost sister, then turn to look again at the others.

"So, may I please join your pack?" I ask, looking at each wolf. I sit behind my carcass, as it is the gift to (hopefully) make them agree.

I stand in my tree, glaring down at my packmates. Just because I am in a tree doesn't give you an automatic reason to hate me. The wind changes, and I scent a wolf. The scent is familiar, but I just can't seem to place it. It is also with a dead buck, but that is not I'm important right now.

I bark out loudly, "I scent a stranger!" Suddenly, I see the stranger clearly. I imminently recognize him. My brother... How is this possible? he starts running towards us. He drops a carcass in the clearing before dashing over to my tree. He starts barking, "Ember! Ember, its me, Smoke! I have found you at last!" Happiness fills me, and my tail starts wagging for the first time since I was a puppy. I leap out of my tree, and run over to him. I lick his face, something I will probably never do again. I back away, my tail still wagging. "Who are your friends? If your a pack can I join? I brought a buck to offer them." He says, then, "So, May I please join your pack?"

"Well, I would say yes, but the others have to agree also." I sigh, desperately hoping they will let Smoke join. He has turned into a tall, strong wolf. If they turned him away, they would be losing a nice addition to our pack. And, the more wolves we have, the stronger our pack is against tigers and other predators. He even has battle scars. Wait, what did he get those from...

"Hey, where did you get those scars? Where did you live these past years?" So many questions I have for you. But then, you probably have lots for me, too." If only we had never been separated. We would have always been there for each other. And, I would have talked.  That would have been one thing to keep on doing, but I would never talk to myself.
