Vanguard is a female of average build, if a tad more burlier and quite taller than the crowd. She's not an amazingly fast wolf, although she can still run pretty darn fast. She's mainly built for her strength, if anything. The only thing really letting her down is her stamina; she cannot run as long and hard as others. She has big, round ears perched high upon her head and a small, rectangular muzzle. Her tail is somewhat shorter than most wolves, but it makes up for that in fluffiness. Her paws are bigger and broader than many of her species, making her adept at swimming but a little clumsy in rough terrain.

P e l t · T e x t u r e :
Her pelt is pretty long and dense, mainly around the head, neck and belly, and almost always tangled and messy. It smells of salt, at times, too, because of her love of water.

F u r · C o l o u r :
Vanguard is made up mostly of a very dark grey and black that covers the top of her back, her tail, the back of her head and neck and ears. A dark tan also dominants her body, colouring her underside, belly, legs, face and inner ears. Her only markings are a splash of ruddy brown across her chest and on her forehead.

E y e · P i g m e n t :
Vanguard has a nice shade of golden green with veins of silver shot throughout them.

Vanguard is the kind of wolf that doesn't like to be told what to do, what to think, what she is. Being a lone wolf for so long, she's not used to authority. Vanguard will not listen to another's advice, even when that information could save her life, but will normally do just the opposite to prove them wrong.

When she's got something in her head, nothing can get through to her but herself and when someone dear to her is in danger. The good thing about Van is that when everyone else gives up, Vanguard will take up the challenge and continue on with good humour. With this attitude, she could complete the impossible because she would never give up until she did.

Despite what you may think, Vanguard is actually not selfish or rude. She's fairly respectful, so long as you are in turn. She's not what you'd call generous, but will give selflessly from her own if another is truly in need of what she had. Once proven worthy of her trust, Vanguard is quite loyal. She will protect you no matter what and never turn betray or turn her back on you, unless you have done something so ghastly so she would never even look at you again.

Vanguard has very strong opinions, partially on lying. She's the kind of wolf who'd rather be bitten with the hard truth than kissed with a sweet lie. She'd never lie to anyone, especially a friend. She will tell them what she truly thinks without hesitation, even if it is harsh and others may believe her to be a jerk or have no consideration for other's feelings.

When you first meet Van, she'll most likely be trying to rip your throat out. It's not easy to persuade her you mean no harm unless you all out submit, and even then she will be suspicious.

Vanguard is actually quite a playful and competitive wolf. She won't say no to a good ol' wrestle or race, and she will play to win. She's not afraid to make a fool of herself and will do so often: Challenge her if you dare.

Vanguard, despite herself, wants to someday have a family of her own. But that may be far into the future because she had no clue as to how to flirt or compliment. Luckily, she believes that the male should do the courting, so she won't have to. It's not too hard to get her to look at you in this lighting. ...Apart from the fact that it's literally impossible to compliment her, as she will most likely see the compliment as a lie, and she does not like others touching her unless she knows them well first. But, once the right note has been struck she will pretty much follow along easily.

Van prefers males that are kinder or docile but not so much as to be a pushover, and a good hunter that can keep himself fed.  But the main thing would be that he would understand that she is perfectly capable of caring for herself. Vanguard likes males with darker fur colours, such as burgundy, dark grey or brown and dark green, yellow, gold or silver eyes. Males slightly taller or roughly the same size as her is also a plus, but when Van see a thin wolf she associates that with being underfed, therefore her mate must be either a little plump or thickly built. A male that can stand up for himself will always catch her eye.

H i s t o r y :
Vanguard was born on a hot summer's day in the Middle of Nowhere, Canada. Deep within the Boreal Forest lie her parent's territory, leaders of their pack. Flint was true to his name and had silver and dark grey fur with a little white on his muzzle and paws. His eyes were a deep fiery orange, the colour of flames. His lively, outgoing and laid-back  personality was in contrast to his beloved mate's: Alexandra, commonly called Alex by her mate, was a cautious wolf, but nonetheless savage during the times of war. She seemed to be a quiet, delicate thing, but if you thought so then you were terribly wrong. She was most often on the front line, itching to spill her enemy's blood. Her fur was a ruddy slightly reddish brown and she had golden lime eyes and an underbelly of creamy tan, considered the most beautiful female in her pack.
With such different personalities, many wondered how their offspring would turn out. The answer were three young females. First up was a grey and cream female, a good deal bigger than her sisters, with a splash of brown on her chest and forehead.  Second was a dark brown female with white all over her legs, belly, tail and face, later learnt to have blue eyes from her great grandmother on her father's side. Flint immediately dubbed her as Serenity, after whom she got her eyes. Last came a tiny, fragile grey and white pup with black on her ears, tail and muzzle with her father's eyes. The parents decided to name her Trinity without hesitation - for she was the third born, and her name suited her sister's - but they were still stuck with the first female. The firstborn seemed so unlike her sisters and didn't exactly take after her parents, either. So she remained unnamed until she would earn one, befitting of her likeliness and personality.

Time went on, like it does, and the female still hadn't a title for herself. Others in the pack had started to just refer her as "The Leaders' Daughter" or "The Firstborn" in place of a proper name. The pup lacked an identity and it was up to her to change that.

Vanguard was approaching her second year that would surely be just like the last: Nameless. But then, there was hope of glory: A nearby pack had declared war. You see, prey and water was scarce that summer, the two would have to fight it out to survive. This was the youngster's chance to prove herself. She would go to war!

Training was brutal, the Colonel in charge of her unit was tough and merciless. The troops suffered, many deemed unprepared for war. In the end, only seventeen individuals were chosen, Vanguard was among those.

The plan was to strike first, before the enemy got strong enough to invade. Vanguard would be in the front lines, she would be part of the force protecting her home, part of the same force destroying another's.

The first battle went on for seven days and six nights, only nine soldiers survived that week. Vanguard fought viciously, but the almost endless fighting taxed her greatly, and her unit was growing weaker. The other pack had almost twice their numbers, so almost everyone was fighting two at once. They fell, one by one.

It was almost midnight, and Vanguard felt that the battle was lost. Her body had cuts and bites all over. Only two other warriors remained to the enemy's four, and soon they fell too. It was just Vanguard now, and all hope would soon be lost. She considered giving in and asking for mercy briefly, but she soon shook that aside. No. She would not be a coward. She wouldn't let them overthrow her, even if she were bleeding and her body broken and could not stand no longer. She may've been tired, but they wanted a battle, so she was going to give them a battle.

Growls, snarled, yelps and bites. It went on long into the night and the morning would soon be upon them. Vanguard had managed to kill one and fatally wounded two and they soon fell back, but she was still hopelessly outnumbered. She only managed to stay alive by parrying and dodging the big, slow heavyweights' attempts at tackling her. She couldn't go on for much longer, she'd be dead before morning, she knew it. True enough, one of the smaller of the three had gotten hold of her behind the neck. Well, this was it. Nothing could save her now.

Suddenly, the wolf yelped and let go of her, leaving her in the mud. She heard it howl in pain and looked up. There was Vanguard's mother, the enemy's throat in her grip, and her father, sinking his teeth into tender flesh. Serenity and Trinity
came into view and engaged with another heavyweight who was about to go for Alex and Flint. Vanguard couldn't believe her good luck, that her family had come for her.

Life returned to normal. With the reinforcements, the pack had managed to take the new territory, overthrow the rival pack's leader and chase out or recruit the survivors into their own pack. The pack was thriving, life was good. Upon arriving back, the young female was now called "The One Who Made It Back," "The Heiress of Alex," and "The One-Wolf Vanguard" - eventually shortened to just "Vanguard." She at last had a name and a story. She would be part of the pack at last.

Things remained quiet for the rest of the year and a majority of the year after that. Vanguard was now a beautiful young wolf, full grown and would be ready to take a mate in a few months should she find one suitable. Her father had encouraged her to accept the courting of a slightly younger male called Dukane, whom she took a dislike to at a young age. He prompted her with promises that he would make a good father, strong and valiant, although Vanguard thought otherwise. She likely would not have much of a choice in any case, as the heiress of her parents' legacy and would have to carry that on.

But food supply was not looking good. It had not rained in six months now and the prey had moved on to greener pastures. The pack would have to follow the herds away from their homeland in order to survive. The journey would be long and hard, especially on Serenity whom had found herself a male worthy enough and was now carrying his pups.

The pack tracked the herd for over a week and found them not far from a human settlement. Although wary of the presence of man, the pack could not put off eating much longer. They spent a month roaming the local forests and taking the odd deer even now and then. Vanguard's father and the chivalrous Dukane were out hunting one night, but neither came back. Suddenly, Dukane came huffing and puffing back, obviously in a hurry. Vanguard and her mother were immediately to their feet as they did not detect Flint's presence. Dukane had them follow him to the side of a long asphalt road in the middle of nowhere, where the old male laid, breathless. According to Dukane, a great mighty beast, as big as an mountain, came roaring down the highway and knocked the life out of him; there was nothing he could do. The pack mourned their leader that night. And he would never return to land, for he belonged to the skies now.

There would be no choice now but to accept Dukane's courtship and become leader: There was no way Vanguard's mother would be able to run the pack by herself, especially so big a pack and after so great a loss. But yet, Vanguard knew she was not ready to be a leader. She could not become what her father and mother were, not yet at least. There was something out there for her, she could feel it.

Her sisters approached her that night. They came  to the ledge on which their father had once sat and spoke words. Vanguard told them that she was not to be the new leader and that her place was no longer here. They said to her that not to worry and that they understood. Serenity had come to tell them that she too was leaving, but Trinity could not leave her mother and family. She had a family here, and that she would become the next heiress. So the sisters walked away from the rest of the pack. They decided not to worry their mother, for she had enough grief already. They left without a sound, sisters going their own way, to find their destiny. One went north, the other went east, and one stayed behind. They would never see each other again, or their family and friend. It was a new life ahead of them now, so vastly different that they never would've thought possible as pups, the death of their father opened their eyes that they could no longer stay here.

It was time for a new beginning.

"Middle of Nowhere, Canada!" Haha, nice. I actually don't know where Koa was born; she's been in so many different packs, if I am going to be consistent!

Anyway, welcome to the pack! Lovely biography.
